Description Peles Castle, Bran Castle and Transfagarasan Road are the main highlights of this 2 day trip. You are welcome to walk along the impressive chambers and halls of the elegant Peles Royal Castle, to discover the truth behind the legend at Bran, Dracula’s Castle and to admire extraordinary mountain scenery along Transfagarasan, “the best road in the world!”(Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson). Itinerary
Day 1: BUCHAREST – CURTEA DE ARGES – POIENARI – TRANSFAGARASAN – BRASOV (374 km) The day starts with pick up from your hotel at 08:00 am. You will head to Transfagarasan, the mountain gateway to the legendary land of Transylvania. On the way there, you will stop first at Curtea de Arges Monastery, an architectural masterpiece built between 1512 and 1517. During the visit you will be introduced to the religious specific of the Romanians and you will find out the intriguing legend of the construction of this worship place. Continue the trip and drive to Poienari fortress, built by Vlad The Impaler, between 1456-1457. Brief stop for photos at the foot of the hill (optional visit the fortress including ascension of 1480 steps). Lunch in a Romanian traditional restaurant followed by drive on the famous Transfagarasan Road. First stop will be at Vidraru Dam, built during the communist period, together with the road. You will have the chance to take photos with a splendid landscape. Driving to the mountain top, the landscape becomes more and more spectacular. After passing by beautiful waterfalls we will go through the longest tunnel in Romania, for almost 1 km, reaching Balea glacier Lake. Brief stop for photos. On the other side of the mountain the drive will be even more impressive. You will also enjoy listening to interesting stories about how this road was build, its utility and why it became the ”best road in the world” according to Top Gear. The end of the day will be in the city of Brasov, where you will have dinner and accommodation. Day 2: BRASOV – BRAN – SINAIA – BUCHAREST (225 km) Brasov or Kronstadt (under its German name) is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Transylvania region. In the morning, after breakfast, you will find out the story of this city and the importance of the Saxon population in the Romanian history. You will visit the Black Church, the largest Gothic cathedral in Eastern Europe and then enjoy a short walking tour in the Old Town of Brasov (typical architectural style, narrow and cobblestone streets, walls of fortification and towers of defense, a medieval space brought in the modern nowadays). Head then to Bran and visit Bran Castle which became so famous thanks to the legend of Dracula. After lunch, leave the medieval castle to visit this time a modern one. Stop in Sinaia mountain resort, called “the Pearl of the Carpathians” and admire Peles Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. It was built in the XIXth century to be the summer residence of the Romanian Royal Family. Being the first castle in Europe provided with electric power, Peles is an outstanding construction with a very elegant and unique interior design. Here you will also find out the tumultuous story of the Royal Family of Romania. Before leaving Sinaia, visit Sinaia Monastery, with both old and new churches. The tour will end with drive back to Bucharest. Included
