The “Valley City” cave was declared protected natural area of national interest. Join us on the footsteps of Dracula and visit places which will reveal you the real story of this legendary character. Details Itinerary First part it will be driving on the highway to Constanta, crossing the bridge over the Danube (the first bridge was built in 1895 by the Romanian engineer Anghel Saligny during the King Carol I). Day 1: BUCHAREST – CURTEA DE ARGES – POIENARI – TRANSFAGARASAN – BRASOV (374 km) The day starts with pick up from your hotel at 08:00 am. You will head to Transfagarasan, the mountain gateway to the legendary land of Transylvania. On the way there, you will stop first at Curtea de Arges Monastery, an architectural masterpiece built between 1512 and 1517. During the visit you will be introduced to the religious specific of the Romanians and you will find out the intriguing legend of the construction of this worship place. Continue the trip and drive to Poienari fortress, built by Vlad The Impaler, between 1456-1457. Brief stop for photos at the foot of the hill (optional visit the fortress including ascension of 1480 steps). Lunch in a Romanian traditional restaurant followed by drive on the famous Transfagarasan Road. First stop will be at Vidraru Dam, built during the communist period, together with the road. You will have the chance to take photos with a splendid landscape. Driving to the mountain top, the landscape becomes more and more spectacular. After passing by beautiful waterfalls we will go through the longest tunnel in Romania, for almost 1 km, reaching Balea glacier Lake. Brief stop for photos. On the other side of the mountain the drive will be even more impressive. You will also enjoy listening to interesting stories about how this road was build, its utility and why it became the ”best road in the world” according to Top Gear. The end of the day will be in the city of Brasov, where you will have dinner and accommodation. Day 2: BRASOV – BRAN – SINAIA – BUCHAREST (225 km) Brasov or Kronstadt (under its German name) is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Transylvania region. In the morning, after breakfast, you will find out the story of this city and the importance of the Saxon population in the Romanian history. You will visit the Black Church, the largest Gothic cathedral in Eastern Europe and then enjoy a short walking tour in the Old Town of Brasov (typical architectural style, narrow and cobblestone streets, walls of fortification and towers of defense, a medieval space brought in the modern nowadays). Head then to Bran and visit Bran Castle which became so famous thanks to the legend of Dracula. After lunch, leave the medieval castle to visit this time a modern one. The landscapes are breathtaking and the photo opportunities abound. In the first day, after a 2-hour drive from Bucharest, you will visit Curtea de Arges Monastery (1512-1517), an outstanding monument of Romanian architecture and one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Romania. The monastery is associated with the local myth of creation and hard work.The guide will tell you the interesting story. The tour will continue with a visit to Poenari citadel, built by the ruler of Wallachia, Vlad the Impaler, between 1456 – 1457. After this, you will stop for lunch. Important note: To visit the ruins of the citadel it is necessary to climb around 1480 steps (400 m) and those who cannot climb can wait at the base of the hill. After the lunch, we start crossing the mountains through Transfagarasan road. It was built between 1970 and 1974 under the communist regime of Nicolae Ceausescu, it has around 150 km and it is linking South Romania (Muntenia) with Transylvania through theCarpathian Mountains. It is reaching 2042 m altitude and it was considered the most beautiful high altitude road in the world by the British “Top Gear” in 2013. We will go through several tunnels carved into the mountain, the last one being the longest in Romaniaof 900 meters (brief stops to admire the scenery and for photos atBaleaLake). By the end of the day you will be in Sibiu– one of the most beautiful cities inTransylvania. The next morning will start with a walking tour of the old town of Hermanstadt (the German name of Sibiu) founded in 1191. After the tour, we will head to Bucharest driving along Transalpina – the highest road in Romania (reaching 2145 m altitude). Transalpina is the latin name for “the country behind the mountains” and the road is also called the King’s Road because it was rebuilt by the the Romanian king Carol II in 1938. It is among the few roads in Romania where you can literally reach and go even above the clouds! After a stop for lunch, depending on the time, you will visit another masterpiece of Romanian old traditional architecture - Horezu Monastery (1690 – 1693). Details Day 1: Departure from Bucharest to the Monastery Curtea de Arges built by the ruler of Wallachia Neagoe Basarab in 1514, representing an architectural monument. The tour continue with a visit at Cozia Monastery, first built by one of the first rulers of Wallachia, Mircea cel Batran between 1386-1388, and rebuilt later by some other rulers. This visit will be followed by lunch in a traditional Romanian restaurant. In the afternoon we head to Sibiu, which was a German medieval citadel, with the first documentary attestation in 1191, and the old name Hermanstadt. After a walking tour in the old town (the historical center of Sibiu) we will have a traditional dinner & accommodation. Overnight in Sibiu. Day 2: After breakfast, departure from Sibiu to the village Biertan & visit at the biggest fortified church in Transilvania, built between 1490 – 1524 (the fortified church Biertan). Later, we are going to the medieval citadel Sighisoara, having a documentary attestation dating back in 1280, and the old German name Schassburg, being in the present the only medieval citadel in Europe still populated (UNESCO heritage). A walking tour of the citadel & visit in The Clock Tower (for an interesting panoramic view) will be followed by a lunch. In the afternoon, we head to Brasov, another medieval citadel, with the first documentary attestation in 1235, and the old name Kronstadt (maybe the most important from all German medieval citadels in Transilvania). After a walking tour in the old town (the historical center of Brasov) will be a traditional dinner & accommodation. Overnight in Brasov. Day 3: After breakfast, visit at the Black Church, first built in 1383, the most important tourist objective in Brasov. Later we head to Bran (Dracula’s) Castle, with visit followed by a traditional lunch. After lunch, we are going to Sinaia (a beautiful mountain resort) to visit Peles Castle (built by the first king of Romania, Carol the 1st) in a very beautiful architectural style starting with 1875, until 1914, to be a summer residence for holidays. Descrion There is a local saying about our country that goes like this: “Romania starts where the asphalt ends.” During this trip you will discover the meaning of it, as you will travel to Bucovina and Transylvania, 2 of the most impressive regions of Romania to visit the famous UNESCO Monuments along with extraordinary cities. So, let the journey begins… Details Day 1: BUCHAREST – GURA HUMORULUI (Bucovina – 441 km) Pick up from your hotel at 08:00 am and drive North to Gura Humorului. So, prepare to leave behind the region of Wallachia and enter Bucovina, the land of the Beech trees, where you will admire typical mountain and countryside sceneries, meet warm people and feel the spiritualness of the places you will visit. This region is very famous thanks to the old painted monasteries which are part of UNESCO World Heritage. Dinner and accommodation in Gura Humorului. Day 2: GURA HUMORULUI – PIATRA NEAMT (Moldova – 110 km) Breakfast at hotel in Gura Humorului. The day will start with the visit of Voronet Monastery, considered as an emblematic painted church with about 500 years old but well preserved frescoes and the inimitable “Voronet blue” in the composition of the paintings. Here you will find out interesting things about the Orthodoxism in Romania, religious traditions and believes all these through…pictures. Do not miss the famous fresco representing the “Doomsday”, which is unique in the world. The next stop is in Sucevita where you will visit the largest painted convent, very similar to a fortress. You will see again outside painted frescoes which passed the time test. Here there are the best preserved paintings among those from all the painted monasteries from Bucovina. Before heading to Piatra Neamt, visit Moldovita Monastery. You will admire the predominantly gold and deep blue paintings on the exterior walls which were completed in the XVIth century. Departure in the morning. Today you will enter the legendary land of Transylvania and visit the UNESCO sites located here. Head first to Sighisoara Medieval Citadel. On the way you will admire stunning mountain sceneries as you will cross the Carpathians. Lunch in Sighisoara. In the afternoon, head to Viscri village, a medieval village which made Prince Charles of Wales to fell in love with Romania. Viscri is a Saxon village full of colour and history, with an authentic local touch and original conservation of the lifestyle. This medieval place was also included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Here, you will walk on the old streets of the village admiring the genuine Saxon houses, you will get to know the original lifestyle of the people trying to keep alive the old and beautiful tradition, you will visit the Fortified Church, and depending on time, you will stop at a local coffee shop to taste traditional cakes and drinks homemade by the locals. Brasov, Kronstadt (“the city of the crown”) under its German name, is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Romania . Leave Brasov and head to another UNESCO Monument, the Fortified Church of Prejmer. Visiting the fortified church, you will understand why. Now prepare to enter Wallachia, another historical region of Romania. You will stop in Sinaia, a very famous mountain resort known also as the “Pearls of the Carpathians”. You will visit here PelesCastle, the former summer residence for the first Royal couple of Romania, King Carol 1st and Queen Elisabeth. Considered one of the most beautiful castles in Europe, the construction is impressive thanks to the architectural style and decorations, but most of all thanks to the beautiful interior design (interesting mixture of cultures in terms of furniture, the specific touch of the King and Queen) and the modern facilities for the last half of the XIXth century (electricity, vacuum cleaner, electrical elevator and central heating). Their cultural identity was preserved thanks to the multitude of crafts and traditions despite the constant threat of the Ottoman Empire. Thus, the Saxons formed a strong community in Transylvania and managed to protect their land by creating fortifications around their churches. Nowadays, among 150 medieval fortified churches, 7 are part of UNESCO world heritage. Details This 4-day program reveals some of the best medieval fortresses and castles from Romania, beautiful monasteries and an interesting salt mine. Day 1: Departure from Bucharest to Sinaia which is a beautiful mountain resort in the Carpathians. In Sinaia you’ll visit the oldest monastery in town. The religious complex consists of the old church, built in the end of the 17th century, and the new one built in first years of the 20th century. Further on, you will visit the Peles Castle, built by the first king of Romania in the second half of the 19th century. It is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. Departure from Sinaia to Brasov, to visit the old town of the city certified in the year of 1235. At that time it was one of the seven German Saxon citadels in Transylvania and the most important commercial center. Next, we head to the city of Sighisoara to visit its medieval citadel, one of the best preserved in Europe and the only one still inhabited. It isa very popular tourist attraction and an UNESCO World Heritage. Accommodation in Sighisoara. Day 2: We will leave behind Sighisoara, heading to the city of Turda to visit the salt mine. It is one of the oldest on Romanian territory, the salt exploitation in the area dating from the roman period. The first documentary attestation of this salt mine dates back to 1271 and the mine continued to be active until 1932. Between 2008 and 2010 serious renovation works transformed this mine into a famous tourist site of Romania. After the salt mine visit you’ll set of to the city of Alba Iulia. It has a long history, dating back to the time of the Dacian tribe who built here the first fortress. The area was conquered by the Romans in 106 who built a fort known as Apulum. The present shape dates back to the first part of the 18th century when the Hapsburgs built one of the best Vauban citadels in this area. Overnight in Alba Iulia. Day 3: Departure to the city of Hunedoara, to visit the most important monument of Gothic architecture in Transylvania. Certified in the first half of the 14th century, the castle was donated by the Hungarian king Sigismund Luxemburg Prince Voicu (the father of Iancu de Hunedoara). In the first half of the 15th century, the ruler of Transylvania, Iancu de Hunedoara, rebuilt the old castle as a military fortress. The castle of Hunedoara was extended later by the son of Iancu, the Hungarian king Matei Corvin and by other rulers of Transylvania. At the present the castle is the largest and most imposing Gothic medieval structure in Transylvania. After the castle visit, you’ll depart to Sibiu. Once in the city, we are going to have a walking tour in The Old Town Sibiu. The medieval citadel of Hermanstadt was also one of those seven German cities in Transylvania. During the walking tour you will discover the atmosphere of a medieval town. You’ll enjoy a dinner in a traditional Romanian restaurant. Accommodation in Sibiu. Day 4: After breakfast, you’ll set off for the Cozia Monastery. Built in 1388 as a typical byzantine church, it shleters the tomb of the founder, Mircea the Elder, ruler of Wallachia between 1386 and 1418. Next we will drive to the monastery of Curtea de Arges. Built between 1512 and 1517, the monastery was rebuilt later during the reign period of Carol I in 1886. This monastery impresses through its outstanding architecture. The exterior walls boast unique stone embroideries. Inside there are buried the founder, the ruler Neagoe Basarab and also the first two Romanian royal couples. The tour ends in Bucharest. Included
